Was Abraham a Jew? — a question asked

It depends who you ask ;-)

The term “Jew” is derived from either Judah or Judaea, I am not sure, but it doesn’t really matter. What matters is how it was used. In the first century it was used of those who belonged to the religion of the covenant people. The race is referred to as Israelites, but the religion was Jewish. Thus, Paul can argue that those who were of the faith of Abraham were true Jews. (more…)

Doing Good or Not Doing Bad — what is good?

Christians don’t do bad things. At least they shouldn’t. If they do they should repent and make retribution. Repentance without retribution is not genuine. It is self-deception. If one robs his neighbour he cannot repent unless he restores what was stolen. Retribution is a must. He cannot keep the stolen goods. (more…)

Thoughts on Romans 8:1–4 — there is no condemnation

Let me spare a few thoughts on the above passage. These little essays are not intended to indoctrinate, but to challenge to critical thinking. Whether I am right or not is not important.

Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do: sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh… (more…)

Thoughts on Romans 7 — who is desperate?

Let me deal with on one of the most misinterpreted passage.

In order to understand the chapter we need to keep in mind Paul’s conclusion in Ch. 6:

Rom 6:17 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, 18 and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. (more…)

What Happens in Heaven — a circular letter

This is one of the nicest emails I have seen and it is so true:

I dreamt that I went to Heaven and an angel was showing me around. We walked side-by-side inside a large workroom filled with angels.

My angel guide stopped in front of the first section and said, “This is the Receiving Section. Here, all petitions to God said in prayer are received.” I looked around in this area, and it was terribly busy with so many angels sorting out petitions written on voluminous paper sheets and scraps from people all over the world. Then we moved on down a long corridor until we reached the second section. (more…)
